Due to its unique position as the only captive wild animal collection centre in Uganda, UWEC serves 3 roles:

   1. Conservation education function.
   2. A rescue & rehabilitation centre.
   3. A recreation where people come to see animals & refresh themselves.

#POATE2024 hosted buyers at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center (Entebbe Zoo), experiencing close encounters with lions and feeding rhinos, giraffes, and chimpanzees ahead of the Expo from 23 - 25 May, at Speke Resort Munyonyo

UWEC has rescued a bushbuck known as Engabi near Entebbe Central Market. The community & vets helped,& the bushbuck is now quarantined. This highlights urban wildlife presence. It's believed it may have come from a nearby wetland, which is also home to sitatungas.

Last Friday, UWEC hosted 40+ tour operators from Kampala & Jinja, led by Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO), to promote wildlife tourism. The team took part in a Behind-the-Scenes tour & engaged with the UWEC Executive Director, Dr. James Musinguzi.

A bevy of girls drawn from 18 Masaza (counties) who qualified during the Miss Tourism Buganda search trooped into boot camp at UWEC on Friday ahead of their finale on May 31st, 2024 at Hotel Africana. The regional final will be held under the theme 'Tourism & Peace'.

An estimated 3-year-old ostrich was seized from a home in Muyenga Tankhill, Kampala for illegal possession. UWEC was contacted to sensitize & take the bird for rehabilitation.The owner, who had kept it since it was a chick🐤,cooperated & appreciated the move.

'Every month, we are called to rescue snakes in the wetlands. We have managed to rescue snakes under people's beds calling them witchcraft yet they invaded their habitat.'

110 school tour operators from 81 companies were hosted at Entebbe Zoo on Thursday to plan for UWEC's peak season. They learned how to use the online booking system to avoid delays for a large number of pupils and students visiting between June - August.
