In preparation for increasing flood risks associated with the Mendenhall Glacial Outburst Flooding near Juneau, Alaska, the National Flood Fight Materiel Center at the Rock Island District was activated to provide 46,000 linear feet of gabion baskets to the affected area.

This #FlashbackFriday we take a look at Lock & Dam 12 in Bellevue, Iowa! This photo from 1934 shows the construction of the lock looking downstream. During peak construction, over 1,200 people were employeed on the project! The lock went into operation on May 14, 1939. #USACE250

Today we joined the City of Cedar Rapids for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the McCloud Run section of the Cedar Rapids East Side Flood Control System. This section includes a flood wall, a new segment of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail and enhanced fishing access.

It's #FlashbackFriday and today we head over to Brandon Road Lock & Dam near Joliet, Illinois, on the Illinois Waterway! This photo is from the construction of the dam in 1931. Construction was completed two years later and the project site has now been in operation for 92 years!

They got caught! These two were getting ready to hit the water for a relaxing day on the Mississippi when they were caught wearing their life jackets! The "I Got Caught" water safety campaign has Rangers looking out for adults wearing life jackets when in or around the water.

Happy Birthday to Lock and Dam 18 in Gladstone, Illinois! On this date in 1937, Lock and Dam 18 opened for operation on the Mississippi River. For 88 years this lock and dam site has helped the navigation industry traverse the river and deliver products from producer to end user.
