5 September 1891 | A Polish woman, Stefania Palczewska, was born in Czaniec. A teacher. In #Auschwitz from 29 January 1943. No 32395 In 1945 she was evacuated to KL Ravensbrück and liberated there.

5 September 1944. Anne Frank, the Jewish teenage diarist, arrived at the infamous German run, Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp after a train journey from the Netherlands.

The only known film of Anne Frank, captured in Amsterdam in July 1941. She’s seen leaning out of a window to get a look at a young couple next door, who got married that day.

OTD in 1942 the “Sperre” began - the roundup & deportation of c.15,000 children, elderly & ill Jews in a one-week period from German-named Litzmannstadt. This Yad Vashem archive image captures one of the children deported: the Aktion profoundly shocked the ghettos Jews.

5 September 1938 | A Polish Jewish boy, Jchiel Bela Tiszman, was born in Płońsk. In 1942 he was deported from the ghetto in Płońsk to #Auschwitz. He was murdered in a gas chamber.

On Day 8 of #Paralympics2024 we remember #SirLudwigGuttmann. A Jewish doctor & German-born refugee, he is widely regarded among founding fathers of organised disability sport. In Sept 1943, Guttmann established the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
