Raw materials are vital for key energy transition technologies. Dr Rockjunkie and Dr Simon Jones are studying mineral deposits in the Iberian Pyrite Belt. The research team during the sampling campaign in Portugal, including Dr Filipa Luz of Almina, who are a key collaborator.

First survey of 2024 completed w/ aplomb👌 Smashing few days onboard Marine Institute funded #RVTomCrean w/colleagues from UCD Earth Sciences, Geography and Environmental Sciences & University of Galway Geography collecting data supporting conservation palaeobiology, blue carbon, Quaternary & oceanography research projects.

Academically & socially kicked off the MOVEMENT Project w/ the visit of Katrien V Landeghem @sos_bangor_uni to UCD Earth Sciences. Led by PhD recruit Muireann Walsh, we'll investigate seafloor sediment dynamics & bedform development supported by UCD Civil Engineering Shauna Creane & Jennifer Keenahan

Fabulous day out with the UCD Earth Sciences #Quaternary geology students examining contrasting glacial landscapes up the Dublin Mountains ⛰️ Not quite sure what Sam Kelley was demonstrating atop a tor, isostatic rebound? 🤷🏼

🌍 Excited about research collaborations? 🌟 Here's your chance to explore the cutting-edge facilities at UCD Earth Sciences and meet the key contacts in our team! 🙌 Join us for an exclusive opportunity to hear from our expert researchers, who are also part of the iCRAG Centre team

🌋🚨 Not one, but TWO PhD positions now recruiting in Dublin UCD Earth Sciences, supervised primarily by Claire Harnett - the projects will focus on modelling the effect of hydrothermal alteration on volcanoes. Deadline: 22nd January #findaphd

Great to see UCD Earth Sciences Lecturer Mark Coughlan and his team out with Marine Institute in fair seas doing #marine #geoscience. Mark, can you explain Blue Carbon in a 'tweet'?

UCD Earth Sciences are proud to host marine ecologist AndrewKSweetman (Scottish Association for Marine Science) for our #DecemberLecture tomorrow, talking about the recent high profile discovery of 'dark oxygen' on the abyssal seafloor, all students/staff/colleagues welcome to join if you're in!

Today in our lab, the NCIG, we have Gary O'Sullivan Gary O’Sullivan (On The Rocks) dating garnets from the mantle using laser ablation U–Pb mass spectrometry. With U contents (much) less than a ppm, this is quite tricky, but going well! #geologyrocks #garnet #diamonds

2025 marks 10 years of iCRAG. We are pleased to invite you to join us at our research showcase, iCRAG@10: Evolving for a Changing World, in O’Reilly Hall, UCD, Dublin, on Thursday February 13th, 2025 at 9:00am. Register now: icrag10.eventbrite.ie Research Ireland

Wrapping up a busy week at #VMSG_MDSG25 with a great geochronology workshop at the National Centre for Isotope Geochemistry at UCD Earth Sciences with On The Rocks and iCRAG Centre Great fun to host a room full of enthusiastic colleagues!

Welcome back students! Interested in planetary science or isotope geochemistry? Join us to see Edith Kubik speaking tomorrow in the SES Seminar Universität Bayreuth

Another great day out for the Quaternary geology class UCD Earth Sciences, looking at evidence of the last glaciation in the Dublin Mtns. Having a bit of sun was rather nice for a change, though Mark Coughlan was missed.

Students/friends/colleagues of University College Dublin and UCD Earth Sciences, join us tomorrow for this high impact seminar from Uisdean Nicholson (Heriot-Watt EGIS)!

New multi sensor core scanning equipment heading our way in the UCD Earth Sciences 🙌 Really looking forward to the research opportunities this will open up in characterising Earth materials for a range of applications across climate, environmental, energy & engineering projects 🌏

Today is #UCDFestival! From 12:00 in the O’Brien Science Centre (Open and Free for All). Among other exciting geo-things we’ll-exhibit a complete set of real Irish examples of all these #Minecraft rocks, in collaboration with iCRAG Centre and UCD Cinema! festival.ucd.ie

New paper out in EPSL on proto-arc VMS systems🚨: Lots of in situ data on Oman glass and results for ophiolite, forearc, VMS, subduction cycling, even arc metallogeny people in here.
