A serendipitous 📷 of the #Hoverfly Eristalis pertinax honing in on a #Ragwort, Jacobaea vulgaris, flower in South Cumbria. Ragwort becomes increasingly important as a nectar source for invertebrates throughout late summer & autumn. #wildflowerhour

Saltmarsh Rush, Juncus gerardii on the Solway Coast National Landscape A significant component of mid-upper marsh, often in mosaic with Festuca rubra, but also forming near monocultures. The later defined by Rodwell as the SM16b community, here forming small, discrete stands. #WildflowerHour

Marsh Woundwort, Stachys palustris on the Arnside Shore. The bruised leaves have an unpleasant aroma, but much less so than Hedge Woundwort, & have been used to staunch bleeding & heal wounds (antiseptic properties). Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape #wildflowerhour

Is there anyone credible out there can explain in simple terms why this isn’t a truly terrifying image? Like, why isn’t this headline news almost every day?

BREAKING: 5 seabird species added to UK Red List. 🚨 Climate change, invasive predators, bird flu, and overfishing are pushing populations to the brink. Urgent action is needed - including upholding the sandeel fishing closure in English North Sea & Scottish waters.
