Noticed on Saturday that a new #stile has been installed on the middle entrance to the LNR off Henllys Way. Looks like its a kit & its a tidy job, but no idea who did it. Steve Williams ?

Rich & I went out in the rain identified a patch of opposite-leaved golden saxifrage. Its genus Chrysosplenium means "golden spleen" for the spleen-shaped leaves. As such, it was used to treat spleen-related ills. Considered edible, but don't confuse it with edible delicious.

Today's theme from #InvasivesWeek is marine. The closest we have to this are our watercourses. In 2015, a large orange fish was released into our top pond. In 2019, we now have these, which were recently identified as Golden Orfe an #INNS. Rehoming soon in an ornamental pond.

11.07.19. I spent 1hr with #scythe & handpull of #Himalayanbalsam behind the log circle area. Loads of small balsam hidden in bramble and bracken. 1st wasp stings of the year too...hooray. @KWT_Torfaen Steve Williams

Interesting afternoon visit to the canal off Pentre Lane. Water fern was located along the length of the canal. It’s an invasive species that takes over but weevils to the rescue, we released them & they’ll eat it up! TY for the info & invite Steve Williams #biodiversity

Spent an hour last night with Brian and Rich tackling #Himalayanbalsam behind Glan Rhyd. 4th time we've been over this section. Hopefully that's this finished, although loads of May 2019 sized plants were found & easy to miss. #Volunteering #INNS
