Jeremy Toohey It is so underrated for how much just simple S&C can transform a young soccer player for the physical aspects of the game. That and when they know that their athleticism can keep up or even beat their opponents it makes the technical and tactical aspects easier to improve too.

Core training isn’t high volume Russian twists, crunches, or excessive planks that end up aggravating an athlete’s low back: ▪️Banded dead bugs ▪️SA DB press from bridge ▪️Walking GH roll ▪️Copenhagen iso hold ▪️Landmine rotation ▪️Offset heavy carry

Saw a reel today titled “exercises all athletes should be doing” that led with dumbbell drop rows and plyo push-ups. Because that’s exactly what low training age kids need right? The race for clicks is watering down real coaching and it’s getting worse by the day.

“We spend little effort in developing the player’s own intelligence - their ability to pick up affordances directly from different game situations and acting to realize them.” #truth

Too many youth soccer players never reach their potential. Most spend middle and high school chasing live reps instead of real physical development. They graduate with the same strength and speed capabilities they had when they started, just more games under their belt.

It often takes seeing the speed of the college game in person for families to realize the importance of dedicated speed and strength work. Year-round games alone won’t move the needle long-term. To compete at the next level, you have to get stronger and faster.

The performance coach who blindly pulls random methods from social media without any clear direction is far more dangerous than the coach with a modest résumé but a grounded, intentional approach.

I think bilateral RSI is a good starting point for assessing reactivity. But SL RSI is far better in assessing reactivity that’s more specific to locomotive sports. Many can hide bilaterally but you can’t hide on 1 leg!
