13 years of searching, I’ve finally found Metellina merianae var. celata, the rarer colour morph of the Shaded Orb Weaver. I found an adult female beneath the lid of a compost bin, cohabiting with a healthy population of the more commonly encountered morph. #TurnFear2Fascination

Velvet spiders like this Eresus from the coastal sand dunes of Israel, are among my favorite spiders to find in the wild. I absolutely adore the females' huge face and stocky build, and encountering the colorful males is always a special treat.
