In maart vertelde de Economist ons nog dat India Is “Getting off lightly”. Tot zo ver ons begrip van de covid en onze capaciteit om iets te voorspellen.

Spain & Portugal want to lower their elec price by capping the gas price (30€/MWh?) for the gas power plants. Two elec prices would be established: 1) to sell at the border with Fr (as before) & one for the domestic market (the reduced). What will happen with future markets?

Spain caps gas price for gas powerplants to limit power prices. The end of the Merit order as we know it. elindependiente.com/economia/2022/…

Is Spain and Portugal showing Europe the way to lower power prices? I think every European energy minister will follow their example. spanishnewstoday.com/spain-reaches-… #energy #gas #power #europe

This figure from EL PAÍS España shows the positive impact the “gas cap” had on the power Price in Spain. (The gap was introduced on 15/6). Let’s see what Europe wants to learn from this nice example of clever intervention in the liberalized power market.

Power in Europe is expensive because Europe defined a set of price setting rules that make power expensive in the context of the current gas crisis. Why can Europe not just change their own rules and therewith solve the problem?(Marginal pricing and ETS)
