The wide panorama from Barpa Langais chambered cairn on North Uist yesterday

The cairn commands views from coast to coast, but the small entrance passage faces uphill & away from this impressive vista.

What a fabulous monument

The strongly-sited Torr Aint fort in Glen Bellart, Isle of Mull

This conspicuous fort dominates an inland pass, but has been heavily robbed - an abandoned crofting village, Aintuim, was built at its north end, visible in the foreground

Dr Toby Driver I've stayed there many a time. Looked after by the sadly missed Barbara McIntosh who also ran the PO from there, + recorded the weather. Used during WW2 by army training. Owners had an offer for reuse but turned it down then emptied the house, barring anyone from going near it.

Early ferry from Mull this morning to beat the rain. I do love this Art Deco ferry terminal at Tobermory - now the Calmac office; real seaside architecture
