For those asking, the ‘fierce backlash last night’ entailed two information requests to our press office. One from the Daily Mail and one from the Daily Telegraph. Please remember to vote in this year’s National Trust AGM.

The main target of today’s expedition was this, however - an excavated Roman bathhouse in a corrugated iron bunker under the A1(M) near Welwyn. And this is a place with which I have a special connection… (thread)

1/2 A very enjoyable walk and talk yesterday with Gwilym Hughes, our President, and Diane Williams, who opened our eyes to the historic sites of #Barry We visited prehistoric barrows, Roman and medieval sites & saw the development of Barry as a dock and later tourist haven 👇

#ChesterMarathon training 🏃 is continuing with some longer 18 & 21 mile runs done but my legs complaining. My old #Saucony trainers gave up, so lovely new ones have just arrived 🥰. Reckon I might need to source some new legs too before the big day..😬🤞#running

Srnorty here thinks that the reason we don't find prehistoric stone tools is because they get eaten by plants Srnorty needs to do some reading if he doesn't want to look like an idiot on the internet. Don't be like srnorty

Chûn Quoit was the first ever Dolmen I encountered. My portal into prehistor, remaining my favourite, forever megalithic structure. A charismatic Early Neolithic monument, standing in this moorland landscape, overlooking the sea, for over 5,500 years. #TombTuesday #Archaeology

An incredible hillfort on the Isle of Arran in Western Scotland sitting on top of a distinctive set of igneous columns that project out into the Firth of Clyde. It is an unusually big fort for this part of the world at over 4.5 hectares. #Hillfortswednesday

#RomanFortWednesday 🧐. Yes - those substantial earthwork terraces in the field behind Caersws (Caer = fort) railway station, #Montgomeryshire, as the train pulls in, are indeed the impressive defences of a C1st AD Roman fort. #Seenfromthetrain #TransportforWales #Roman
