Help @thelenoxproject crowdfund for a Deptford dockyard visitor centre to raise the profile of south east London’s wooden shipbuilding past. They aim to restore the dramatic vaulted undercroft of a historic building in #Deptford spacehive.com/thelenoxproject #RSAcrowdfunding

Today in 1628 the Vasa, the latest, most powerful and advanced ship in the Swedish navy set off on its maiden voyage. After travelling about 1,300m it capsized and sank. It was raised after 333 years on the seabed. Now The Vasa Museum is one of my favourite places in the world.

A few places left for August's low tide walk. Your chance to experience Deptford Creek, the Goldilocks creek of London. The river bed is not too soft and it's not too hard and it's cool on a hot day or any other day really. It's an extraordinary place. Pic from July's walk

One week left to pledge to help The Lenox Project reach its crowdfunding target: to restore the undercroft of a historic building in Deptford, fit out a ship model-building workshop, and restore pride in Deptford’s ship-building history spacehive.com/thelenoxproject #RSAcrowdfunding

Last chance to support The Lenox Project’s campaign to celebrate Deptford’s maritime history through the restoration of a vaulted undercroft of a historic building. Help preserve the dockyard’s rich ship-building heritage spacehive.com/thelenoxproject #RSAcrowdfunding

Who remembers the aspiration of Deptford Market Yard? Now we have a row of bars, a shabby corner of old cable reels, and two bright blue portaloos. It's a far cry from what @uandiplc sold us.

Our long-term supporter Richard Katona, who was an active member of the Deptford community and sadly died earlier this year, is remembered in a plaque in Longshore Gardens on the Pepys Estate. RIP Richard.

8 handy points to note about our ‘green’ PM: 1) He has “almost always voted against measures to prevent climate change” 2) He supported shale gas fracking & told readers of his column to “ignore doom merchants” worried about emissions
