The first powered flight in Canada was made by John McCurdy in "Silver Dart" on #TDIH in 1909. Built by Alexander Graham Bell's Aerial Experiment Association, the aircraft's name was inspired by the silver-looking rubberized fabric that covered it.

The last signal from NASA's Spirit Mars rover was received 15 years ago today on March 22, 2010. This is its last color picture, looking down at the ground around its partially-buried wheel, taken three weeks earlier.

56 y ago, the impossible took flight. Apollo 11 left Earth w 3 astronauts and the dreams of a planet. 4 days later, one step changed history reminding us that curiosity, courage, and imagination know no bounds. Today, we honor a moment that lifted our eyes to the stars. 🌕🚀🌌

Where were you #OTD (in fact, on this exact day – Friday, July 18th, 1969) 56 years ago? I can tell you where I was…on the way to the Moon! Happy #Apollo11 Friday!

Those three flew that rocket to the Moon, and with Mike orbiting, Neil and Buzz walked on the surface 56 years ago today. One of the greatest achievements in all of history, it still inspires the world.

We are saddened by the passing of Jim Lovell, commander of Apollo 13 and a four-time spaceflight veteran. Lovell's life and work inspired millions. His courage under pressure helped forge our path to the Moon and beyond—a journey that continues today. go.nasa.gov/41tbrpq

Grieving the loss of one of my best friends, Jim Lovell. His extraordinary legacy is cemented by many space missions: Gemini VII, Gemini XII, Apollo 8 and Apollo 13. Our mutual respect had no limits. The Gemini XII mission we flew together paved the way for the Apollo
