I’m proud to share the first PhD paper of my first (formally) PhD student Ilaria Pola, where we investigated proteins associated with TSPO PET imaging. 🥳 We are now already working on the extension of this work, so stay tuned! 🧠💧🩸 Nicholas Ashton McGill University
New from our lab! 🧪✨ Pascoal Lab Led by my brilliant co-supervisor Bruna Bellaver, this study shows that plasma GFAP can help enrich clinical trials in preclinical Alzheimer’s disease—cutting costs by up to 64% and identifying those most likely to show tau progression.
New research from Tharick Pascoal & colleagues finds that glial reactivity (measured using biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid from 478 individuals) correlates with synaptic dysfunction across aging & #Alzheimers; Findings validated in 2 independent cohorts nature.com/articles/s4146…
The brilliant Christian Limberger just delivered an outstanding presentation on IDO1’s role in brain glucose metabolism in living individuals at #AAIC25 Zimmer Lab
A powerful #Brazilian connection at #AAIC2025! 🇧🇷 Our community grows stronger and bigger every year. Grateful to ISTAART & Alzheimer's Association for supporting our junior colleagues. 💪. Congrats Tharick Pascoal for the amazing results w/ head study Eduardo Zimmer 🦋 Global Brain Health Institute ISTAART
Excellent presentation by #MarcoDeBastiani on a promising novel microglial biomarker linked to brain glucose metabolism at #AAIC25! Zimmer Lab
It’s an incredible honour to receive the #AAIC25 ISTAART postdoctoral poster competition award! Thank you to all the judges and Alzheimer's Association for highlighting our work, as well as Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, CIHR, Alzheimer Society of Canada, my team and colleagues for their support ❤️

So excited to share our recent publication in Brain: doi.org/10.1093/brain/…, in which we show that tau progression in atypical AD follows the brain’s intrinsic functional connectivity architecture, originating from local epicenters. RikOssenkoppele Nico Franzmeier Colin Groot
