I don't hate Ms Rowling; if anything, I pity her, as she seems to have no idea how ludicrous she comes across as to people outside the GC cult and her far right fan club. Yet, this is precisely why I think she is profoundly disingenuous and dangerous.

I was a trans kid in the 80s. I knew that I would rather have been a girl. I prayed to wake up as a girl every night, well into my late teens. I also knew that it was something that you didn't talk about unless you wanted to get beat up.

Objecting to Rowling lumping innocent trans women together in a list with sex offenders is NOT the same as denying some trans people have committed sexual offences. The comparison with church abuse cover-ups is absurd and deeply insulting to survivors.

Growing up gay in the 90s you were made to feel like a criminal. The media frequently and deliberately conflated the worst of us to tell the world all of us were the same. To see the wizard lady doing it all again to trans people brings back just how vile a tactic it was.

I wonder if J.K. Rowling has considered the safety of the #trans people she has targeted? She is OK, in her ivory tower with a host of bodyguards. Those in jail may be safe to some extent.

But what about Katie, India, Mridul, Munroe and Beth?

Since Rishi Sunak's trans-hostile speech at the Conservative Party conference, 11 days ago, I have noticed a huge increase in anti-trans hate posts and comments across all social media - including LinkedIn, which is usually the safest platform of all.
