More historical research by Marion, this time on Chapeltown Farm which was documented at the time of Culloden when the farmer "had to pay the equivalent of £7-8s-4p providing for Jacobite troops and £20-5s-8p providing for the Government troops". nosasblog.wordpress.com/2024/06/26/cha…

An aerial view of the wall we have uncovered so far at Tarradale, it is about 15 metres long. The mechanical digger has been in and taken out several other scoops nearby showing further walls. The 18th C map reveals 5 "barns" in the area. #ScotlandDigs2024

Day 1 at Tarradale for our latest phase of post medieval building excavation. We may now have walls of 3 out of 5 "barns" shown on the 18th c Estate map. #scotlanddigs2024

Day 2 of 5 at Tarradale on our dig. Good progress in the trenches with lots of happy volunteers. But still plenty to resolve! #scotlanddigs2024

Day 3 of our dig at Tarradale with more volunteers from the YAC. We have managed just about to join up two of our walls today after a great deal of hard work! #scotlanddigs2024

Day 4 at Tarradale. We are struggling to make complete sense of the features we have uncovered so far, but we have made good progress despite a smaller team today and some heavy showers. One more day to go! #scotlanddigs2024

Day 1 of our latest dig at the Tarradale "barns". We've opened one new trench at the north of the site and extended another. A few bits of pottery, including some medieval glazed redware. #scotlanddigs2024

And that's a wrap for our latest dig. We now think our long wall was potentially out of the use at the time of the 1788 map and not shown on it. The walls of the "barns" that are shown may survive only as spreads of rubble but we have some interesting features. #scotlanddigs2024
