Did I do this right? 13” radius on an IndyCar tire: 2x3.14x13= 81.64” circumference on a tire; or 2.26yds. 1760 yds in a mile. A tire rotates 778 times per mile. 1946 times per lap. 39 seconds a lap. Roughly 50 times a second…?

Its probably blasphemy, but what if the #Indy500 became the Indy 750 or 1000? Is the challenge supposed to be the speed, or the distance? Isn’t it both? Going 500 miles at speed is SUPER hard, but is it as hard as going 500 miles 45 years ago? Just thinking…

In a follow up; the first 500 race in 1911 elapsed time was 6hrs and 45min. It didn’t drop under 5hrs until 1925, 4hrs in 1950, and 3hrs in 1989. Helio did it in just a little over 2hrs and 35min. Just thinking that elapsed time goal should be in the 4-5 hr range…?
