As a young boy I received the Ladybird book of Nelson and I’ve wanted to visit HMS Victory ever since. Yesterday, Kate Godden, myself and the boys stepped aboard and it was every bit as incredible as I imagined.

I can only assume they’d heard a rumour that I’ll be turning out for L&LCC this summer and decided to get in early before the crowds! 🤣

We’re on our way to visit The D-Day Story for the first time today and I’m very much looking forward to it. It’s nice to be doing something Normandy related having not been able to get there this Easter holiday.

At 0730 on D-Day men of 1 DORSET were amongst the first British troops on Normandy soil. Under a hail of fire they waded towards the beach and began the fight to liberate Europe.

I’m not a collector, but every now and then something comes up that connects me with a moment in history that I have to have. This item was just such a thing; the greatcoat that belonged to Harold Beeson, transport officer of 1 Royal Norfolk from D-Day to VE Day. #DDay80 #ww2
