Good news on 24 team RWC (which few months ago not expected to 2031) appears now almost confirmed. So this will now be the only ever tournament with a pool stage dragging on this long. There was no huge demand among "Tier 2" for a plate competition anyway. theguardian.com/sport/2023/oct…
