More evidence of human pathogenic fungi acquiring drug resistance from agricultural use of fungicides with same modes of action. See highlight of work from Michelle Momany and Marin Talbot Brewer labs👇

New method paper from our lab: KO in choanos made easy. This has been a game-changer for us and we hope it will be useful to others biorxiv.org/content/10.110… As a bonus, we report the first evidence of the Hippo pathway controlling multicellular size in a non-animal - see below!

Zach Konkel built CLOCI to detect gene clusters based on the signatures of their evolutionary processes. Not just secondary metabolite clusters...all kinds of clusters. And of course we present fun new horizontal gene cluster transfers. academic.oup.com/nar/advance-ar…

Our lab was awarded an R01 to study how the fungal septin cytoskeleton contributes to anti-cell wall drugs in Aspergillus fumigatus! In the long term, this knowledge will help us improve existing antifungal therapies! 1/2

This is the parasitic fungus Arthrophaga myriapodina, which causes infected millipedes to climb to an elevated spot before death! This one fell from its ferny perch and landed on its back allowing the fungus to prosper and sporulate in between segments on its underside!

Happy #MicroscopyMonday! Last week I ran a workshop for high school students UMass Dartmouth, where we looked at pondwater on microscopes. Everyone then made a "Pondemon" card for an organism they identified, using pictures they took! Here's a small sample- printable set coming soon...
