Highlighting our Yorkshire Cancer Research funded Yorkshire Enhanced Stop Smoking Study: an offer of integrated stop smoking support to people attending for lung cancer screening is accepted by a broad range of participant demographics and should be routinely offered as part of the national screening programme
I’m taking part in #WeWalkForYorkshire this May to show my support for the 31,000 people in Yorkshire who are diagnosed with cancer each year. Any donations would be greatly appreciated 💙 join.yorkshirecancerresearch.org.uk/s/368/3163/t
📰New research shows that offering stop smoking support alongside the national lung screening programme has the potential to save lives.
Evidence from Yorkshire Enhanced Stop Smoking Study demonstrates people are likely to take up the offer of support and quit smoking as a result.

Fantastic to see the first results paper from our Yorkshire Cancer Research funded Yorkshire Enhanced Stop Smoking Study published today. Uptake of our stop smoking support within lung cancer screening was high. Protected funding to integrate services is vital erj.ersjournals.com/content/63/4/2…

3 in 4 women in Yorkshire attend cervical screening when invited.
While these rates are slightly higher than the average for England, more needs to be done in order to achieve the NHS’s ambition of eliminating cervical cancer by 2040.

💡 A spotlight on research
Thousands of people in Yorkshire will receive urine self-testing kits in the post.
Led by researchers at The University of Sheffield, the £1.5 million trial is assessing the possibility of an early detection programme for bladder cancer.
