Some wonderful volunteers from Coca-Cola volunteered their time to make improvements at Plantsbrook LNR. A big thank you to you, as well as the Ranger service teams from Sutton Ranger and Lickey Hills providing tools and facilitating this
I finally got to see my first Small Coppers this weekend! Got there eventually! Also a steady stream Red Admirals seen throughout the day. One Comma spotted and a white species flying high up. Sutton Ranger
@carlhiles Sutton Ranger Only had one Small Copper in the garden this year, perhaps the wind will blow another one over. Also, does anyone know if there is regular monitoring of butterfly populations in Sutton Park (ie transects)?
Lots of Stonechat movement going on Sutton Ranger . Only 2 of our ringed pairs appear to be on site, and only the one ringed juvenile was noted. Lots of unringed birds now appearing in the park, forming groups up to 8 in number. West Midlands Ringing Group Chris Millward Jnr
Big congrats to Nick and Anja and all Friends of Boldmere Spinney on new community noticeboard launched today! Funded by Bham City Council CWG award, installed by Sutton Ranger team, great #Sutton #Vesey community project!
On woodland and heathland landscape restoration tour of Sutton Park today with the brilliant Matt from Sutton Ranger - stunning story of long term success!
If you are interested in heathland insects & other invertebrates, here's a link to a survey of Sutton Park, Birmingham carried out by Chris Kirby-Lambert and myself in 2018-19: researchgate.net/publication/37…. We found 1,775 taxa, 81 with conservation statuses, despite a summer drought!
Massive thanks to the Sutton Ranger team for commissioning the works and being so supportive. If you've never visited, it really is like a bit of the New Forest set within the northern suburbs of Birmingham, and it supports some really special plants and 'bugs'.
