This is because the motivation for neoliberalism is not to help people, who it views should be independent, not justice, not *public* health, etc. 'Efficient' solutions to problems, with problems understood from perspective of the market and its needs, not needs of human beings.

I really don't want to jump to conclusions but it is hard not to be concerned that this is a precursor to introducing pediatric MAID. If the precedent is that govt will stop funding medication that creates quality of life, addresses symptoms...it sure feels like opening that door

"I don't want to be fear mongering or sensationalist, but from a clinical & scientific pov, it's effectively like a euthanasia sentence at this point. Taking away that treatment that they know she's still benefiting from is tantamount to expediting the end of life for Charleigh."

The reality is neither absolute applies in all situations - or any arguably - which is why you should have line at the state & physicians not deliberately killing a patient.

As someone who has had more than one physician say that keeping me alive was a waste of taxpayer dollars, I really hate you all for talking about a child in this way. A human-looking-like being just spent $500 million on a wedding to a barely-human looking being. Money exists

I'm not Catholic but I believe in a society where faith groups - and their leaders - can practice what they believe within their places of worship. Don't go to church if it bothers your delicate sensibilities. I also wouldn't serve you coffee at my secular community group.

I like Vulnerability Theory more than emphasis on who is "precarious" and who is not for many reasons. One is it's uniting not dividing. It's not setting up a hierarchy or competition, it's creating a sense of shared humanity. Also there's endless ways precarious is created.

.Jeff Hall and I collaborated to co-write this post. We felt the need to respond to the editorial endorsing govt and attacking supporters of Charleigh Pollock in today's Times Columnist. Appreciate if you would read and share. open.substack.com/pub/mssinenomi…

It's like a temporary holding cell until you die - designed to make you want to do so sooner rather than later. I wish nothing good upon those who extol or defend the shrinking of our spaces and therefore of our lives.

Imagine if they made a Barbie with a rare disease and it came with a letter from BC Govt informing the child that Barbie's treatment wouldn't be covered.

And please remember the federal Liberal govt plans to expand MAiD to make mental illness a sole qualifying condition. At the moment there is a Charter Challenge demanding all hospitals provide MAID on site. Creating space for killing when there is no space for healing.

There is no paper that is going to be published that will suddenly shift the way things are. The people who created safety for humanity in the past struggled for it, fought for it, demanded it. We didn't get public healthcare bc someone wrote a good paper or gave a great speech.

Also I hate when people feel the need to be reductionist and in process decide to ignore other needs. I understand the urge to say the solution to homelessness is housing period but it is a form of erasure of those who require supports in order to live in community.
