Bill Nighy standing outside my flat being still to listen to the spring birds on May Day morning is exactly what you’d want Bill Nighy to be doing right?

My first blackcap of the year on the Nuns moor, singing it’s clear fluty notes, ink sketch & first 2 small orange tips. The moor lush and green, but this years cows are a young boisterous lot ! Have a good evening all πŸ‘

Another superb day highlighted with a new Golden Oriole in the Sammy's and Long Bank Marsh area, 15 Black Terns 'out-east' (highest spring count since 2017) and a stunning male Montagu's Harrier flying south in the afternoon.

The loss of Lapwing from our countryside is serious and it is happening now. Intensive agriculture is responsible for driving this and many other farmland bird declines across the UK. It's heartbreaking.

A bird I've been wanting to find for years, and it finally happened today. After a long, quiet walk in the dunes, I went to Elm House Farm to check fences for chats. Just as I got there, this Wryneck flew up from the track edge and landed next to my car! RareBirdAlertUK

Male Redstart among leafing Sycamore, East Lothian, Watercolour 380 x 560mm.
Been a while since I have been able to get out of late, but the first bird I lifted my binoculars to on the coast here today was this wonderful Male Redstart.

Late to the party, but here’s my contribution. You have to respect how good an ambush predator they can be. This one taking down a Demoiselle in Greece made a loud audible thwack sound!
