Wrote about Alexander Starritt’s excellent Drayton and Mackenzie, Anglofuturist fiction, and whether the novel can help us imagine our way to economic growth.

Calm. Cool. Collected. Named everyone else on his crew. Said “anyone else would have done the same,” and then saved close to 200 people. A truly humble professional and hero. I hope this man gets every good thing he deserves.

Here's my review of Drayton and Mackenzie, Alex Starritt's capacious, elegantly written novel of entrepreneurship and bromance in this week's The TLS Swift Press the-tls.com/literature/fic…

I highly recommend Alexander Starritt's Drayton and Mackenzie: that rare thing a novel about business that captures both the frustration and excitement of creating something from nothing, bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

Few write a novel about management consultants, the 2008 financial crash & tidal power. But these are the topics of Alexander Starritt’s “Drayton & Mackenzie”. Very different from his bery funny “The Beast” about tabloid jornalism, it is about male friendship. Surprisingly moving

I've just finished Drayton and Mackenzie by Alexander Starrit and it's outstanding: warm, cerebral, compelling, educated, grown up, haunting, huge in scope and very readable. Why on earth isn't it on the Booker long list?

This new novel by my friend Alex Starritt is a masterpiece which anyone who graduated into the financial crisis will find chillingly familiar - it's also the best exploration of male friendship in a novel for decades. Please read it.

An outstanding novel. In times when masculinity is under huge scrutiny, this is such a positive, uplifting book about (amongst many other things) what it can mean to be a man. But the ending - oh my heart. It absolutely should be Booker long-listed
