Between 1992-95 the Dretelj barracks near the town of Capljina in southern BiH became one of the cruelest camps of the Bosnian war.

Prior to 1992, this vast military complex, the size of 2 football fields was a barracks & fuel storage facility for the Yugoslav People’s Army.

Targeting intellectuals, academics, activists, leaders of any sort has always been a common thread in genocide. Killings of the most notable of your community are done to make you remember nobody is safe, to make you lose hope, to ensure the community doesn’t resist or reorganise

In Bosnia, during the genocide, intellectuals, academics, political leaders, activists, members of the Islamic Religious Community, writers & anyone with the ability to inspire the people were all systematically targeted & massacred.

Eliticide is defined as the systematic killing of a community's political and economic leadership so that the community cannot regenerate.

How the hell will humanity ever recover from allowing such horrors to occur?

JASENKA MAŠIĆ was injured on 14 November 1993 when she went with her friend Adnan Ćorović to pick up guitar strings. #Serb sniper shot her in the neck. She died 6 days later, on 20 November 1993 because of her injury.

Jasenka was 15 years old.

When Amel was killed he was only 16 years old.

Today, I am thinking about this testimony, from a survivor of the Pionirska Street massacre (Višegrad), in which 70 Bosniak civilians were locked into a house by Milan Lukić's Serb param. forces and burned alive.

Little Aida's words haunt me: 'Mommy, save me.'

Today is the world #ChildrensDay and we would love to share a photo of just one in thousands of survivors of the #BosnianGenocide .

We are here to tell our story and we are here to stay.

DAMIR ČOPRA was killed on 22 October 1992. He was playing with his friends when they were targeted by the #Serb Forces. He was hit in the chest. His younger brother was injured & his father Ramiz was killed 4 months before him on 24 June.

Damir was 11 years old.
