I talked with Tina Hassel live in #europamagazin on Das Erste about the situation in 🇫🇷 and its potential implications for the EU; how dangerous (or not) the 🇭🇺 Presidency will be; and what we can expect from the #EUCO meeting starting today (in 🇩🇪): shorturl.at/ndgme

"Patrioten", "Souveränisten", EKR? Im neuen Europaparlament gibt es 3 Rechtsaußen-Fraktion. Warum das nicht unbedingt eine schlechte Nachricht ist, was das ganze mit der AfD zu tun hat und wie dicht die jeweilige Brandmauer hält: 🧵/1

👬🇮🇹 Two hours before the final vote on Ursula von der Leyen, Fratelli d'Italia have not yet announced their position. Procaccini's speech gave no clear indication, and there's no reason to believe they'll announce it at all... maybe they just don't have one...

The Greens/EFA Group has formally decided to support Ursula Ursula von der Leyen as European Commission President. As part of the 4-party majority, we have secured commitments on the #EUGreenDeal, making the EU more socially fair & protecting democracy. We keep the far-right out of power.

Interesting that for all the focus on recent gains for the far right in European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen this time didn’t rely on far right parties like Orbán’s FIDESZ or Kaczyński’s PiS to win Parliamentary support, whereas she did rely on their votes to become President 5 years ago.

VDL managed to walk the policy-priority-tightrope and the Greens decided to play ball. Maybe the 24 Fratelli d'Italia MEPs would have voted for #VDL if the European Greens had not announced to. Still, the Greens appear as the kingmaker for her second term. ceps.eu/yes-there-are-…

'The Greens were the kingmaker in this election,' Sophia Russack from CEPS ThinkTank says after Ursula von der Leyen reelected president of European Commission. In total, 401 MEPs supported her bid for a second term - 41 more than she needed. bit.ly/4bUKL3b

At the invitation of Roberta Metsola, EP leaders will exchange with the President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the Commission’s structure and portfolios proposed on Wednesday 11 September from 8.00 to 9.30. (1/2)

NEW EUROPEAN COMMISSION: What happens next Tuesday in Strasbourg when/if Ursula von der Leyen accepts the invitation of MEPs, all depends on the interpretation of this bit of the Parliament's own rules. And it's Parliament's rules, not Commission's, mind.

VDL's new College setup! First quick observations: #vonderleyen abolishes the extra VP-layer and thereby moves closer to the Juncker setup. Four of six EVPs are female. She kept her word to reward those MS that sent female candidates: 🇷🇴 gets an EVP and 🇸🇮 gets enlargement.

It’s a political tightrope for von der Leyen, explains Sophia Russack in POLITICOEurope . On one hand, she put her foot down on gender 'while not stepping on member states’ governments feet too much, as she still has to work with those governments.' politico.eu/article/ursula…

That's new! Or old: Prodi (Commission President 1999-2004) moved his Commissioners' offices into the buildings of their respective DGs. Barroso moved the College back to the Berlaymont. Now #vonderleyen introduced two offices. Curious how this will pan out!
