Special needs. Special education. Special transportation. The word “special” is not another word for “disabled people.” “Special” is a way of saying that disabled people will be othered, segregated and devalued.

It is 2022 and disabled people are 25% of the population. Disabled people should not have to grovel for access and accommodation.

A disability is neither pitiful nor inspirational.
