Our History…the lie that Dundas was an abolitionist: Arniston Memoirs, and historian Devine say slavers supported Dundas for his slave trade support.

Our History…Academic historian Devine supports those who, without valid evidence, say Henry Dundas’ plaque should be removed because he was an ‘abolitionist’. But here, Dundas’ (Arniston) family history(1806) and Devine’s history(2015) say slavers like Houston supported Dundas…

Our History/Dundas was not an “abolitionist” as stated by Dundas’ descendant (Viscount) and M. Fry. Devine said Dundas “delayed” abolition (confirmed by Mullen) to help slavers, eg James Baillie who called abolitionists “low men”…why would he call supporter Dundas a ‘low man’?

No question- my Yale University university press Global History of Scotland will conclude that Dundas’s Caribbean patronage network & its links to Scotland could not have been preserved had he supported abolition

Our Slavery/History: Sir Tom Devine refers to Slavers who Dundas supported and they thanked him for abolishing the slave trade, ‘gradually’...especially James Baillie MP who said “abolitionists” were “ill-informed, ignorant and low men”...he certainly was not referring to Dundas.
