It's long been a question: could all of humanity actually live within the Doughnut? Thanks to Hauke Schlesier et al it's just been quantified for the 1st time. And the answer is probably yes - if we transform to economies of sufficiency. Read more here: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

If Cork City Council did their job & enforced Derelict Site Register for last 34 yrs we wouldn't have dereliction epidemic & everyone would have a home
They're not alone
This dereliction of duty by Irish local authorities has cost lives & traumatised generations

New internal Big Oil documents just dropped

featuring hits like

-“We don’t yet see the world even approaching a 2°C pathway'

-'“Methane is more potent than CO2'

-“No one is committed to anything, other than to stay in the game.”

And more!

In a City starved of cultural spaces, these two buildings on OPS would be perfect to use for Exhibits, markets, small scale gigs...The Printworks has been empty 9 years and the ground floor in the glass building has never been used commercially in the 15 years since it was built.

The principal challenge for our national parks is the control of grazing. This does not have to be elimination of grazing but most habitats would benefit from not having farm animals

Rewilding, therefore, should be the central priority for national parks

🗑️ We cannot recycle our way out of our waste problems (or the )!

🌍 We need to move to reusable packaging and forge a path toward a circular economy that's free from waste, toxins, and inequality.

Brilliant piece in the TheJournal.ie!

The farm lobby celebrates the destruction of biodiversity, soil, and carbon stocks. This is pure nihilism. They are pulling the rug under the feet of farmers and food production.

Last week, Greece announced that it will prohibit bottom trawling in its national parks by 2026 and extend this ban to all marine protected areas by 2030.Sea Shepherd will help in patrols 👏

In Ireland, still no sign of a law to allow for MPA creation

Turns out that, once again, An Taisce were entirely right and they correctly predicted what would occur. Farmers are now being forced to maintain higher stocking rates and big agribusiness won't let them exit.

You know how all those demanding the right to keep on wrecking the climate always say, 'But Ireland only makes a tiny contribution to global emissions'?

Well, funnily enough, so do all those demanding the right to keep on wrecking the climate everywhere else.

Scam argument.

Constantin Gurdgiev all National Parks have grazing rights for sheep, and deer hunting rights are retained by the state (sporting rights are rarely granted, some exceptions)

none of this is new, just got media attention when folk realised NP designatation means nada

Framing climate action as only an issue for the 'leafy suburbs' signals a failure to fight for and shape climate action in a way that improves people's lives:

free public transport
lower energy costs
more free time
better housing

There's a lot to be fought for and it's popular!

The announcement of a new national park of 70,000 acres around Kerry's Conor Pass is great news!

But the primary focus *must* be resolving the massive, long-term ecological problems in already existing parks, like Killarney.

My sense is Kelliher doesn't really know what hes talking about, so hes just parroting industry lines “the ratios in terms of tree types do not make an attractive' = we want less diversity.

Said in the same piece as he warns of the dangers of bark beetle?!agriland.ie/farming-news/u…

Pumps finally off!!!

But not for the good of nesting Lapwings.

This bog has now been completely pumped to a disgraceful, outdated & unnecessary level by BNM.

One of the largest biodiversity loss areas in the Country & Ministers don't want to know about it.

Disgraceful

A plague foretold. And - incredibly - the state forester continues to replace monocultures with yet more monocultures while our new Forest Strategy dishes out subsidies to yet more monocultures on private land

Outrageous behaviour by Belgian PM who is betraying his country's role as Council presidency.
Anti nature. Anti EU. Anti democracy.
But pro intensive farm lobby.
