I can’t find the following documented, but I bet the obsessive lowercasing of everything in Unix/C culture derives from lowercase being a cool novelty character set in the 1970 context (like Emoji in 2010) that people wanted to use, but didn’t want to get mixed up with uppercase.

The PDP-10 used a 6-bit character encoding (corresponding to the modern codepoints from 32–95), and had a 36-bit word size. So, words were limited to 6 characters, and could not be case-sensitive.
