These images are deeply disturbing. This is performative cruelty carried out the day before an election in a shameless attempt to win votes.

It isn't illegal to seek asylum, so why on earth is there any need for handcuffs and this bullying treatment. Truly repugnant.

I was very pleased to have the opportunity to address the Family Justice Council this morning on the barriers to participation in family proceedings faced by mothers in prison. A very positive meeting & a precursor to publishing my end of project report in about 6 weeks’ time.

The cows and calves are back in the fields after a long (wet) winter. We all enjoyed tonight’s sunset views.

It makes sense for some states and state actors 👇🏾 to want to get rid of the - given it protects people from states

Imagine trusting states to remove rights to protections from states...

I am so sorry to hear of the death of Ann Adalist Estrin. It was always a privilege to hear her speak & I was fortunate to meet her on a number of occasions through Children of Prisoners Europe . Her scholarship, wisdom & enthusiasm for life leave a powerful legacy. legacy.com/us/obituaries/…

Working on my data on imprisoned women's access to family courts.
Imprisoned mothers are (literally & metaphorically) in a room with a door, but the door handle is on the outside. Accessing legal advice gives them a doorstopper so that the door can't be shut tight

What could universities do about the fact so many academics self fund (with time & £) so much research?
‘Allocating institutional time & support resources would be a start.’ 👏

‘Exploring generosity as an alternative mode of critical engagement is not meant to dismiss the importance of deconstructive critiques. It is … important to note that a generous orientation to knowledge… has typically been sidelined &/or unrecognised in academia.’ Rachelle Chadwick

In Gaza, 'every person, the first thing they want to tell me in English or Arabic is 'We need food,’' says UNICEF spokesperson James Elder. 'They are saying that because their assumption is the world doesn’t know, because how would this be allowed to happen if the world knew?'
