I've voted for Jan Royall to become Oxford Chancellor, not (only) because it's about time, after 800 years, that the university had a woman chancellor, but because I know she'll do a great job.

What sort of planning reform do we need? This Rachel Solomon Williams blog for Green Alliance suggests we need a stronger, better resourced system - more & better planning, not less. greenallianceblog.org.uk/2024/11/19/pla…

The UK relies almost entirely on imports for all 24 critical raw materials. We should reduce our dependence by reusing, remanufacturing and recycling these materials domestically, creating jobs in the process.

Keats, Yeats & the rather important point that the COP29 "clamjamfry" has made inadequate progress on methane. As the UN has stated, "cutting methane by 45 per cent by 2030 could prevent nearly 0.3°C of warming by the 2040s". Good blog.

And they ignore the fact that car manufacturers who prepared for the ZEV mandate are exceeding their sales figures, while the laggards cry foul & climate sceptics who spread disinformation about EVs rub their hands with glee. The government should stick to its guns!

Ayayayyy what a week for EVs News of the Stellantis Luton factory closure has been conflated with the ZEV mandate failing, but it's pretty clear to anyone paying attention that the two things are not really related... 2 big things to note on this:

.Jonathan Reynolds is right, "the push to electric vehicles is not about a culture war", however hard the usual suspects try to make it one. The fact is that car manufacturers are struggling across Europe & beyond. The hope for the UK industry is to invest in the future - ie #EVs!

"Labour was elected on a mandate to get Britain building again while also restoring nature. The two can go hand in hand " - there are loads of details to be worked out, but this is a good start. The cross departmental collaboration is also very welcome.

New analysis: If four UK airport expansions including Heathrow are allowed to go ahead, they will cancel out the carbon savings of this government’s clean power plan IN JUST FIVE YEARS. This government must cancel these planned expansions.
