Webb telescope probably didn’t find life on an exoplanet — yet. Read more ⬇️ #JWST UC Riverside CNAS #ucr #ucriverside news.ucr.edu/articles/2024/…

What a beautiful summary of JWST sciences and exciting things to look for by Hannah Wakeford I had goosebumps like seeing all the blockbuster movie trailers at once for the upcoming next decade #exoplanets5

#exoplanets5 some of my favorite quotes so far: 1. HJs offer a high-T, high-P laboratory to test our knowledge of physics and chemistry, w.o the messyness of life -- anonymous 2. After adding more physics, it becomes wrong -- Vivien Parmentier

Shawn reminded us of the bio signature assessment standards (Meadows+2022). A sobering guidelines to keep in mind while dealing with exciting detections.

Leiden is such a lovely town. Only if I didn't just spend half an hour looking for where I parked my bike this morning #exoplanets5

Recent research highlights from AAS Nova: an interesting new temperature rocky planet GJ-12b, the impact of water photolysis, sulfur biosignatures on Hycean planets, and artificial greenhouse gases as technosignatures. Featuring three studies from @nogreenstars's group at UCR.

My 1st grad student’s 1st paper is out on Arxiv 🥳 We think sub-Neptune K2-18 b could be a global hydrothermal world with water beyond the critical point, based on its observed atmospheric composition with #JWST. Great collaborations w/ our geochemistry godfather Chris Glein 😎

Just realized overleaf has no limit on the number of projects, even with the free version. I have ~100 projects over the past year. Soon this would be messy to organize.

For those, like me, who are fascinated by our place in time, this new study challenges the idea that Earth’s biosphere has just a Gyr left. arxiv.org/abs/2409.10714

The main reason to serve on a telescope or funding panel is to get the experience of OMG I HAVE TO READ HOW MANY OF THESE? and WHY DID THEY FORMAT IT LIKE THIS? and THIS FIGURE IS TOO SMALL! and it forever changes how to you write your own proposals. #JWSTCycle4

For our #JWSTCycle4 proposal on atmospheric characterization (unrelated to habitability nor astrobiology), the 1st weakness is "not clear enough what implications would it have for other classes of space creatures" -- some kind of cruel joke I don't get?

I wrote a research note about the recent publication of the MIRI/LRS spectrum of K2-18b. The authors had claimed the detection of potential signs of life. I find the data to be consistent with a flat line, you can read the paper here: arxiv.org/abs/2504.15916
