Fun afternoon of cohort building with the School of GeoSciences @ University of Edinburgh Edinburgh GeoEnergy MSc at the Scottish Shale Museum this afternoon We learnt about the history of oil extraction in Scotland, with the rare breeds farm Almond Valley being an added bonus!

November's Object of the Month is this miner's mash hammer. This heavy hammer, with one square face and a narrower nose, was used in Westwood Pit, probably for setting props and hammering in wedges. The owner's initials "JC" have been formed in a raised run of weld. c.1950
