I want to live in a world where medical students and residents are more excited about Sensible Medicine than Anki or UWorld.

Happy to be a new paid subscriber.

Presented this to our HM group today.
Lots of good writing on this to date. I appreciate the thoughts of Sensible Medicine John Mandrola, MD and Vinay Prasad MD MPH on the matter.

If you haven't read REDUCE-AMI yet, go ahead and do so. Likely a big step for de-prescribers everywhere.

Further thoughts on Patient advocates, payments from pharma, and why MRD negativity is about forcing CMS and insurers to pay and not FDA approval/ access

This is the money statement: “Even though I am a physician and trained in the scientific method, I am pretty bad at assessing risks.”

I really like this column. Not only because I agree with it, but also because the author makes a strong argument

'It struck me that this was a double standard. If a non-significant difference can be called “modest efficacy,” a 1% numerical increase in preterm birth (also not significant) should be a modest harm.'

'Doctors are already allowed to prescribe these drugs (off-label)... In fact, the FDA’s accelerated approval won’t grant access... but rather, I fear, is a grand strategy to force insurers & Medicare to pay for... uncertain drugs.'

Just posted the 'Improving Your Critical Appraisal Skills 2' on Cohorts on Sensible Medicine this week. I think this article might have to be included in the articles to read section.

Just learned more about RCTs in this 1 Sensible Medicine article than in an entire HSPH stats/epi course I took during a summer in residency.
