This wasn’t a national conversation on #SEND. They were only interested in talking to themselves, not listening. Terribly misjudged. Do give feedback if you attended. forms.office.com/pages/response…

Oh, look. A load of coverage about a new government inquiry into "overdiagnosis" that completely blurs autism & mental illness, and ends up leaning into all those tropes about people making it all up.

Behaviourst approaches such as punishment & control teach young people that they are only loved & accepted when they please us or impress us. They must earn our approval, which can be damaging long-term. We do not need to control their behaviour to make them good people.🧠🌱

Spain assigns every child a paediatrician from birth. Regular check-ups catch autism, ADHD, speech delays and eye issues early. The UK? No system, no specialists, long waits. This isn’t overdiagnosis, it’s neglect. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Well said Tony. I’d love to know which professionals state there’s overdiagnosis. How many reviews do you keep doing until you get one you want to hear??

Sadly nothing new. Each Govt has watched the NHS struggle. Get rid of some managers and increase admin efficiency so there are more frontline staff. This would allow more wards to be reopened and we need to have more respite care to bridge getting people back home to free beds.

The standard of care in our expensive and mostly privately-owned children’s homes is shockingly poor. A sample, from today’s Ofsted inspection reports. 🧵

We need to remember that secondary school pupils haven't fully developed skills yet for self-control & emotional regulation Their brains are still wiring & under construction. When we shift our lens from defiance to development,we see the young person differently. 🧠🌱

How will things ever change if the Govt can’t tell the difference between poor mental health and neurodivergence? Were told to be more understanding of mental Heath, talk more, seek support but now the Govt doesn’t like the fact that more of us are being diagnosed with either!
