Blue shark found stranded at Bridlington, East Riding of Yorks on 19th December. Great collective effort in recovery by BDMLR and Dave leng, body now stored pending #CSIOfTheSea examination at ZSL Science next year, thanks again to everyone who helped us with this one!

Crews from Selby, Tadcaster, Malton, Ripon and supported by Humberside Fire & Rescue North Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire HART have attended a water rescue incident in Selby. The area incident was brought to a safe conclusion and the individual is being assessed by ambulance crews

2nd Water incident tonight, crews called to reports of person in the river at Bishopthorpe. York, Selby, Acomb appliances attended All persons were located safely Supported by North Yorkshire Police & York Rescue Boat

*** Call Out 01/2024 *** Team called out by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service at 04:38 to reports of a boat adrift by Millennium Bridge in York. York FRS managed to secure the casualty vessel as we were deploying our flood team to the incident. Team stood down en-route.

Young (and very skinny) white-beaked dolphin found dead stranded yesterday at South Gare, Redcar. Body recovered, awaiting later pickup for #CSIOfTheSea examination at ZSL Science. Huge thanks to Dave leng for swift recovery and thanks to our friends at BDMLR for help too!

A harbour porpoise live stranded and died at Seaburn, Sunderland yesterday. Scarring and healing injuries over the tailstock/fins consistent with prior grey seal attack. Huge thanks to Dave leng and others for their help with the recovery, #CSIOfTheSea exam will be interesting!

Conducted #CSIOfTheSea examinations of a few earlier 2024 cases this week, to round the year off. A white-beaked dolphin calf from South Gare, Redcar and a harbour porpoise from Littlehampton, both stored frozen at the time for logistical reasons.

Pilot whale reported live stranded near Immingham in the Humber this week. Unfortunately the stranding location on deep mud prevented safe access and the whale died soon afterwards. The body couldn't be recovered but may turn up elsewhere nearby- please let us know if so!
