Did you throw a party this weekend? Did you make crudité or a vegetable tray? If you bought too many carrots and they went bad, put them in your brown bin!

NYC Sanitation Save Our Compost NYC While I love this program I think it's premature to share this tweet when it's not available in all boroughs and neighborhoods yet. In Bayside our collection has not resumed (I'm aware the pilot is returning in October) so anything in brown bins is collected as trash 😞

Anna notes that New York City has a 17% recycling rate, so there’s plenty of room for improvement when it comes to NYC’s trash problem. “There’s a big gap between what we’re doing [17%] and what we can do [68% diversion, by recycling & composting fully] news.yahoo.com/meet-trash-wal…

NYC Sanitation $4 million is an outrageous amount of money to spend on this type of study. For perspective, it is equal to the total amount NYC spent on composting last year. This money could have gone so much further - imagine 40 100k grants to existing NYC waste experts. SMH

And finally, from Department of Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch: "New Yorkers will not have to fear as many rats hiding in late night shadows." Read all about it bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Today was a good step for the rat problem. Please engage in the public comment period! Reducing rats takes many solutions operating at once, which is why the Council’s Rat Action Plan is critical, but the real key is universal *mandatory* curbside organics collection.👇🏽
