Adam Finn Adam. This is not accurate or helpful. REACT report out this week clearly shows protection from transmission in vaccinees, albeit with some concerns around waning. It is also the case that exposure is at shockingly high levels, no doubt playing a role. #VaccinesWork

Adam Finn Please reconsider this tweet and clarify. Vaccines may not be sterilising but they are incredibly effective at reducing transmission.

*sigh* youngest is covid+. That's ~60% of the class now, most of whom have taken it home & infected their (thankfully mainly vaccinated) families. Remind me again how kids don't matter because they don't spread it or get sick? Roll on the family-wide long covid lottery!

😖. Leaflet circulated to parents last week from Scottish government/NHS telling parents NOT to get kids tested if they have symptoms like runny nose or sneezing. What are the top symptoms of Omicron? RUNNY NOSE AND SNEEZING ( doi.org/10.1136/bmj.n3…)

Shamez Ladhani This is flat out incorrect. Vaccines do substantially reduce the risk of infection and transmission, just not 100%. You should delete this tweet.

In 1986 Staeheli et al seminal MX1 paper noted re: IFN/ISGs “it is not known...how many of these proteins are required for protection against a particular virus”. 37 yrs later, Phd student Matt McDougal's new paper shines a light. 1/3 embopress.org/doi/full/10.15…

It was an honour representing the MRC-Uni of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research University of Glasgow at the Elsevier Vaccine 17th Vaccine Congress, here in Glasgow! As a non-vaccinologist I got to learn a great lot about vaccines from all the other speakers! #17VaccineCongress

Why do people seem to be getting sick more often now? For yet another year we are already seeing earlier and significantly higher hospital admissions for respiratory illness than pre-pandemic levels. Are there new mysterious pathogens starting to attack us now? 🧵1/

Just published in Nature Communications! We show that Usutu virus is the only mosquito-borne flavivirus to resist ISG20-mediated inhibition, thanks to a unique domain in its 3'UTR that protects its genome from degradation. A project led by Jim Zoladek at IRIM. rdcu.be/dVMK1
