Great work by the team today. 3 new Chough nest sites discovered in buildings in West Cork by Glengarriff Woods NR, David Rees and Claire Deasy one of which uniquely in a laundry basket! Also another nest of Grey Herons ringed in Cork Harbour National Parks and Wildlife Service BTO BirdWatch Ireland

A decent gap in bad weather yesterday meant the team could get out and ring another Raven nest in an abandoned towerhouse. The biggest brood of the year so far with 4 chicks. First spring BTO ringing session at Clogheen Marsh yesterday. Fairly poor 49 birds of 12 species, but good to get returning Chiffchaff and Blackcap from last year. I was told of a Mute Swan Blarney Castle & Gardens which had a ring on its leg and on Saturday Róisín Towe managed to read the ring. It has only moved 7km, but was ringed by John O'Halloran at The Lough nearly 21 years ago, making it the new Irish longevity record BTO BirdWatch Ireland EURING
