Sent in by a friend - DWP advice to jobseekers is apparently ‘lie about climate for capitalism’s sake’. Imagine our shock 🙄 #PlanForJobs #TellTheTruth

Today’s random work gig has involved getting soaked with a Natural History Museum film crew, visiting Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserves in the Brecks, and seeing our friends from Amphibian and Reptile Conservation releasing headstarted northern clade pool frogs. A model of meticulously-planned, science-led reintroduction.

You can be fined up to £5000 for causing the death of ONE bat, water vole, swan or dormouse. 'Unlimited' fine for A SINGLE otter or badger. According to our court system, these fish are worth LESS THAN 13 PENCE EACH. 13p. It's disgusting & it needs to change. #fishkill

River Ouse not looking Great. Problems of rivers are widespread. A murky river full of algal plankton when it should be clear & full of aquatic plants. Our rivers are in trouble. The only solution is major land-use change & stronger river regulation Environment Agency EnvAgencyAnglia

For examples of how Honey Buzzard rob combs from wasp nests check out these videos by Stef van Rijn. He managed to film GPS-tracked buzzards robbing both tree and ground nests in the Netherlands youtu.be/4MrD-r2VO9Q youtu.be/Yg6_5Hv6ofI

Video © Julia Wildi

17M UK households spend £250M on 150K tonnes of bird food annually. Great if you are a dominant species like a Blue Tit but what about if you are subordinate species like a Willow Tit? Thread based on our new paper led by Jack Shutt authors.elsevier.com/c/1dbei1R~eL8FJ 1/

Been a successful day running a seabird ringing/monitoring trip to Puffin Island. Had an excellent team & lots of good training done. I waved at my tagged Shelduck on the Dee Estuary too. #SeabirdSaturday

So WWF UK shelved a report exposing the extent of River Wye pollution just ‘to keep Tesco happy’. Too, too many eNOGs are comprised like this, seduced by the perfume of funding, happy and prepared to comprise everything just to meet payroll. Frauds. 🤬 theguardian.com/environment/20…

The re-colonisation of Cors Ddyga & Valley wetlands on Anglesey by Bitterns is a major conservation success. In 2023 there were 7 boomers in 80ha of reedbed. And there is potential for increase. Next stop Norther Ireland? Not sure I’ve heard Bittern & Chough together before.
