@safe_maternity

Our babies died because of unsafe NHS care, and now we've come together to call for a statutory national public inquiry on maternity safety. #MaternityInquiry

On #nationalbereavedparentsday I want to show off our girl. Harriet should be 8. We miss her every minute of every day. We will get accountability for a life so wrongly stolen from us. To all those suffering out there today - you are not alone 💔 ❤️ #safermaternity

Congratulations Wes Streeting MP. There's an awful lot of work for you to do and I wish you the very best with it. In particular, maternity care is dangerously broken. Please don't waste any more time - get on with ordering a #MaternityInquiry @safe_maternity now!

Very significant statement from new SoS Health & Social Care Wes Streeting MP this evening: "From today, the policy of this department is that the NHS is broken." Finally, recognition in government of the reality we all face daily. It's a good start! gov.uk/government/spe…

Some thoughts from me on why the new government must commit to much more transformative change to make progress on saving babies lives and reducing inequalities in baby loss. 1/4

🧵 Sir David Warren NMC Chair being interviewed by Nuala McGovern about nazir afzal’s damning report of Nursing and Midwifery Council “I want to say sorry also to the registrants who are caught up in fitness to practice processes which are far too protracted.” That’s it?! What about the families? 1/

The families whose children are dead and lives have been destroyed because of registrants who repeatedly broke the code of conduct? The ones who have had to make referrals because their employers don’t? 2/

The families who are waiting for years for you to progress fitness to practice proceedings because you agree that staff are a risk to the public yet you allow them to keep working in the meantime. The families who continually chase for updates? Where is the apology to them?! 3/

So many heartbreaking experiences coming out of OUH’s John Radcliffe. If you have experienced harm caused by #maternity services in #Oxfordshire please do get in touch with myself or Kim BirthTrauma to join our campaign for a #MaternityInquiry. Donna Ockenden FRSA, Hon DLitt Wes Streeting MP

This ‘apology’ from Yvonne Christley is 🤔 . After a traumatic birth at the #JohnRadcliffe it was recommended I had a Birth Debrief…I called & was told the service wasn’t for me as it sounded like I had a complaint… We need a #MaternityInquiry in Oxfordshire. Wes Streeting MP

I'm so glad Sands - baby loss charity 💙🧡 & Tommy's have done this. Poor telephone triage is exactly the reason Abigail died. It is madness to me that there are no national guidelines for it, they are badly needed & would save so many lives.

Yet again Care Quality Commission blames their lack of action on the three year time limit for prosecutions. But they know the limit exists and deliberately do nothing until it is 'too late'. Baby Orlando and his family deserve so much better.

Just so beyond sick of these stories. Healthy mums don't just die. Healthy babies don't just die. They are failed by the NHS, time & time again. PLEASE let's stop pretending this is just a funding/staffing issue, it's so clearly not. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

These comments from Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman are so very welcome. It feels like a real shift in tone - let's all hope that action to match follows swiftly. The focus on the maternity and the recognition that culture is the biggest problem are particularly welcome. telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/08/1…

We've heard these, or very similar expressions of significant concern, so many times before. The time for significant, meaningful and enduring action and change is well overdue.

🧵Thank you to @sirinkale for featuring ours and Aliona’s story in her article. When we signed up to an expensive @NCT course, we thought that we were making a wise investment to empower us with all the factual information that would need to be fully prepared for birth. 1/
