Pond survey season is underway! This morning the team surveyed three ponds in North Suffolk, including this ghost pond (left), with abundant aquatic plants and a creation (right).

We were also treated to a purring turtle dove in a nearby hedge. Operation Turtle Dove

Team water vole survey morning at Darsham Marshes, great to see lots of feeding signs and distinctive 'tic tac' droppings! Lots of blackcap, whitethroat, chiffchaff and cetti's song.

The highlight of my farmland bird survey this morning was finding a freshly fledged brood of three TAWNY OWLS. Also, 2 Barn Owls, 2 Willow Warblers, 2 Lesser Whitethroats and decent numbers of Sky Larks, Yellowhammers and Linnets.

Two nice farm ponds from Long Melford in Suffolk. Both of these ponds appear on the first edition Ordnance Survey maps of 1884 and both are still providing great wildlife habitats in an arable landscape.
