The report found the nature and extent of portrayals of characters of colour is still varied. There are carefully crafted titles with characters with agency, who are identifiable, relatable, nuanced, varied and are central to the narrative (examples in image) #ReflectingRealities

It's always a thrill when somenoe as knowledgeable as Mat notices the little things you've put in a story. Zeki's dad is caring and competent - "present" Mat says, what a perfect word (one often championed by Elliott Rae too when talking about involved Dads). It says so much.

Thank you 𝙰𝚕𝚊𝚗𝚗𝚊 𝙼𝚊𝚡 for this colourful & lively picturebook about Zeki and his friend, Yu. I so enjoyed seeing spreads that had flats in them alongside open and modern parks. So much care and cost has gone into production that the colours zing off the pages.

Well this is just the most delightful book post! If you have, know or work with children 0-5 and you don’t know the Zeki stories yet, I implore you to seek them out. Such perfectly pitched and meaningful stories with expertly crafted language and engaging illustrations… 🥰
