Ever wondered how neuron position conditions how they form circuits and do their job? Well, in a new preprint from the lab we look just at that. Turns out they do just fine in altered spatial layouts and can even take over cortical function. A team effort lead by Sergi Roig Puiggros

Subcortical band heterotopia are often called 'double cortex', and indeed they are, as their neurons have conserved identities, input & output connectivity, and can even functionally replace those of the cortex! This is what we show in this collaborative work led by Sergi Roig Puiggros

New insights into cortical layer 5 neurons! Gabriele work reveals unique synaptic signatures of L5 IT and PT neurons in somatosensory circuits. Molecular profiles hint at specialized roles, with L5 IT showing enrichment of autism risk genes. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
