RIP Allan Ahlberg. This book brought me and so many children I taught so much joy and hysterics. That boy Derek Drew probably taught me everything about behaviour management. #AllanAhlberg

Interesting, thinking about Allan Ahlberg and in particular how important his poem books were to me. I don’t think I’m alone in saying that when I started teaching in primary (over 30 years ago), we all had our collection of books, poems and short stories…1/7

Saw a bloke on the tube at 7.30am peel the cover off a Sainsbury's trifle. People were watching, interested to see how he'd approach it. He got a large Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut bar out of his pocket, unwrapped it, then used it as a spoon to eat the trifle. Sensational viewing

Has anyone seen/can share an image which can support an explanation hierarchies/accountability structures for the different state school types in England? #edutwitter

I do love seeing the “first day as..” posts from those entering the profession or assuming new roles. Our profession is awesome and that should be celebrated much more

I'm not saying Peter Mandelson writing a ten-page birthday message to Jeffrey Epstein means he did anything, I'm just saying personally I struggle to fill in the bit of free space in a birthday card when I'm writing to anyone I've ever loved.

Honoured to have received this award. Important to note this is great collaborative work with Prof John Jerrim and Dr Sam Sims at UCL.

So much to say about the 90% phonics target. Most of it is about the ridiculousness of it. We have been 90% and 92% the last two years before that with a very SEND heavy year 1 we were 70%, before that we were 84%. Nothing to do with teaching and everything to do with cohort…

Phonics target, attendance target, more reading tests; so utterly depressing. I’m not one for bleating, but the world has changed. Schools are unrecognisable from 10 years ago: complex and scary needs, apathy, illness. Sooner we understand this, the quicker we can address it.

Especially if you hold CLT to be the most important thing for teachers to know, read through this thread by Christian Bokhove and discuss with colleagues. Try debating practice: adopt contrary positions.
