Felix Contreras of NPR's @Altlatino tells me that Ms. Huerta is a jazzhead; she met Charlie Parker as a teen. Felix sez: 'When she & Cesar Chavez traveled up & down the valley, organizing farmworkers, ‘64, '65, they listened to jazz. Cesar was a jazz fan: Monk, Miles, Trane.'

The great Denny Zeitlin is 86 today. One of my favorite pianists. This album, recorded live at the Trident in Sausalito in 1965, is a good introduction to his body of work. Denny likes telling the story of meeting his wife Josephine there: 'Then she walked through the door...'
