Today is the International Day of Older Persons, and very recently I had the absolute honour of photographing Dame Sian Phillips for my ongoing work with Age Cymru. An absolute highlight for me; she is just the best company, even getting in lemon drizzle cake for me!

Oh no. Such sad news. I sold Brian a red shirt many, many years ago when I was working in Kensington Market. None of the other staff knew who he was. When I told him I loved his poetry he was thrilled and so humble.

My new book of essays is out from CB Editions and can be ordered here cbeditions.com/mcguinness.html It's about trains, stations open and closed, lots of things that come with the prefix '-post', about haunted art and sidelined towns, old factories and forgotten poets. Etc

Yep that’ll do it. Test them even more that’ll get ‘em to engage. Pretty sure SATs testing is the start of the disengagement process, when Reading stops being something joyous. As ever clueless DfE who think putting a measure on something will solve a problem. No vision.

In Budapest, there is a fountain that looks like an open book, where at regular intervals a sheet of water curves to one side, creating the illusion of a page being turned.

Last night at Waterstones Cardiff . It was a huge pleasure to be in conversation with Cynan Jones about his new book, ‘Pulse’, published by Granta Books . A striking collection of short stories which really leave their mark on the reader. Riveting, heartbreaking and electrifying.

Bridges Centre in Monmouth is an amazing community facility set in an historicbuilding. It’s been devastated by the recent floods. If you feel you can spare a small donation 🌞 @https://x.com/i/flow/login?redirect_after_login=/bridges_centre. Donate at givi.ng/4c7d

Around in Folkstone today? Come listen to Adam Marek and me talking about short stories. I went to one of Adam's classes back in Cathy Galvin's live The Word Factory days and learned so much and now I get to share a stage with him! Can't wait to see Sophie Haydock too!

This is SUCH a great book. Three chapters in, I realised I had to finish it the same night because I just couldn’t wait to find out what happened.

'We are used to writers and their foibles.' My friend says we are going to stay at this hotel together, who else would like to come? (Unfortunately we'll need to travel quite a long way, back to 1949.)

It was amazing to get to work on this with the brilliant Will Hayward. It's SUCH an important book. If you live in or care about Wales, you really need to read it.
