It’s a perfect morning to come explore the Rensselaer Plateau.

I’m pretty excited Rensselaer Plateau is continuing their efforts with Nine Pin Cider for yet another collection of apples for WARP hard cider. Our farm is so happy to participate in donations again this year. Another great way local businesses are supporting open space.

The steep slopes of the Plateau mixed with pasture means that we have effective surface water retention areas on the farm to protect the Tsatsawassa watershed and enhance vernal pool habitat. This time of year they are always bone dry. This September, not so much.

The wetlands of the Rensselaer Plateau are an important component of the watershed and provide invaluable habitat. Nassau is pleased to work with Trout Unlimited to make sure our waterways are linked and thriving.

I just toured the site of our newest 22 acre hiking preserve and I’m on habitat overload. Vernal pools, wetlands, brooks - and a deer charged by me with 15 feet. I can’t wait to welcome the public. Trail markers ordered this week.

Alder Brook Park is under development with clearing having started last week. At the confluence of Alder Brook and Tsatsawassa Creek, fishing access will also be available.
